DALLAS (April 24, 2025) – Nearly 1 million people in the U.S. today are living with Parkinson’s disease (PD), of which 67,800 are in Texas, and this number is expected to grow to a staggering 1.2 million by 2030. Living with PD can clearly be challenging. To help those with the disease, their family members, and caretakers, CC Young will host a Parkinson’s expert panel discussion to provide valuable, practical information about the many things that can be done to maintain and improve a person’s quality of life and live well with the disease. The free event is Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in The Point Auditorium on the CC Young campus

Guests will hear from leading voices in neurology, speech language pathology, nutrition, and Parkinson’s-focused care:

  • Dr. Aanchal Taneja, Neurologist, Texas Neurology and Movement Disorders
  • Faye Elahi, Nutritionist, Nutrition Balance for Life
  • Hilary Byatt, MS, CCC-SLP, Chief Operating Officer, Parkinson Voice Project
  • Leisha Phipps, Executive Director, Dallas Area Parkinson Society

The panel will explore a range of essential topics, including:

  • Maximizing doctor visits and medication effectiveness
  • Lifestyle adjustments and nutrition strategies to support disease management
  • The critical role of speech therapy in preserving quality of life
  • Navigating community resources for patients and caregivers

“Living with Parkinson’s brings questions to those with the disease and their families. We know this firsthand as several CC Young residents are living with various stages of PD. As an organization, we are committed to providing Parkinson’s programs that enhance their lives, and those of non-residents, including outpatient and general community members through Point memberships,” said Russell Crews, president and CEO. “We have created a robust PD program and continue to enhance our offerings and credentials, which include Rock Steady Boxing, Parkinson Voice Project SPEAK OUT! Therapy Program, aquatics programs, VOICE support groups, and FEES swallow studies conducted in-house by our team of therapists.”

Additional community partners will also be on-site to answer questions and share resources and educational materials.

Seating is limited. RSVP is required by May 1 at ccyoung.org/events or by calling 214.427.8360. Members of the media who are interested in learning more, please contact Alyssa Ceballos at [email protected] or 214-378-7970.
