“Golden Memories”

As the leaves change and we welcome November, I find myself reflecting on this month’s theme: Golden Memories. It stirs up thoughts of the extraordinary community we’ve built here at CC Young, and how, in many ways, our 20-acre campus in East Dallas is a microcosm of the world. With over 550 residents and 600+ dedicated staff, it’s impossible to overlook the rich diversity among us. We come from different backgrounds, represent various belief systems, and hail from a broad spectrum of socio-economic experiences. Some of us have lived lives of abundant blessings, while others have known struggle, perhaps even the uncertainty of finding a safe place to sleep at night. We are a tapestry of different nationalities, cultures, and traditions.

Despite these differences, we all share something fundamentally human: the journey of life. We experience moments of profound joy and inevitable sorrow. We face sickness and enjoy health. Yet, through all the highs and lows, there’s one thing I’m reminded of daily – we are here for one another.

Over the years, I’ve often thought to myself, “Life gets lifey.” It’s unpredictable, full of twists and turns, surprises, and sometimes challenges that we never saw coming. But in the midst of life’s chaos, what stands out most to me is the unshakeable love and support our community offers one another. Our residents, staff, and families unite in times of need, uplift one another in moments of joy, and provide a compassionate presence when the going gets tough.

Recently, I was interviewed by D Magazine, and as I shared my experiences with them, I found myself reflecting on the many stories I’ve witnessed here at CC Young. Stories filled with both immense joy and heartbreaking sorrow. But through it all, the memories that shine brightest for me – my “golden memories” – are the ones of kindness, love, and the profound connections we form here.

I often feel incredibly humbled and full of gratitude to work in a place like

CC Young, where I see the true meaning of community lived out each day. To borrow a phrase from Brian Parman, I’ve finally found a place where my skill set intersects with my passion. It’s a realization I wish had come earlier in life, but I trust that my journey, with all its twists and turns, has prepared me for where I am now. Divine Order, as I like to call it, has led me here, and for that, I am truly grateful.

So, as we enter November, I encourage us all to reflect on our own golden memories. To cherish the moments of connection, the warmth of community, and the love that we receive and give. And as we continue to walk this path together, let’s remain mindful of how lucky we are to have one another – through the joys, the challenges, and everything in between.
