The Power of Pumpkin

With fall just around the corner, many of us enjoy its signature dish: pumpkin. Pumpkin pie is likely the most popular and oldest pumpkin dish, but many foods and drinks containing pumpkin are being introduced such as pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bread, pumpkin ravioli, and coffee flavored with pumpkin.

As we age, the health benefits of foods becomes very important. Pumpkin is one of the most nutritious fruits there is, thus it is known as a super food. It is loaded with antioxidants and vitamins that may help fight off disease. Pumpkins are high in vitamin A, fiber, phytosterols, potassium, and beta carotene just to name a few.

Pumpkin is naturally low in fat, containing only about fifty calories and zero grams of fat in one cup. So as the cooler weather sets in and the leaves begin to change, enjoy your favorite pumpkin dishes with the knowledge that they are packed with many nutrients to help power your body.
