In this day and age we have all become more conscious about the food we put into our bodies. This is not a new trend. People have been studying the effects of food we consume for thousands of years. As we get older we have to pay more attention to the food we prepare and consume. A common misconception is that “healthy foods” lack in flavor. This could not be further from the truth. We try and pay attention to the food we consume, but how about what we season our food with?

One of the most common ingredients in cuisines throughout the world is garlic. Besides its delicious smell and amazing taste, it offers several health benefits. Garlic contains a compound called allium, which studies have shown has tremendous health benefits. Garlic can combat the common cold. Using garlic supplements can reduce cholesterol levels by as much as 10-15% and can lower the risk of heart disease. Garlic contains natural antioxidants which help combat oxidative damage which contributes to the aging process. By combating the oxidative damage it can help prevent Alzheimer’s and dementia. It has been found that these antioxidants can help prevent cell damage and aging.
