Off to a Healthy Start

May 2, 2019 | Nutrition Tips

A new year is upon us and people often feel like it is the best time to step back and make one (or more) lifestyle improvements. Making a New Year’s resolution is a common practice and one area where most people could benefit from is in making healthier diet choices. Here are some simple tips that can help you attain your resolution of eating healthier:

Staying hydrated – How much water you need depends on your gender, size and activity level. A good rule of thumb is to drink at least seven glasses of water a day.

Choose ‘healthy fats’ – Limit saturated fats (example: butter and bacon) and avoid trans-fats (example: doughnuts and cakes) as much as possible. Select unsaturated fats, also known as ‘healthy fats,’ such as avocado and salmon.

Have a colorful plate – Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Always try to have fruits or vegetables on half of your plate each meal.

Lower your sodium intake – Often people grab the salt shaker or sauces at meals to help enhance the flavor of the meal. To help decrease sodium intake season foods with herbs and spices.
