History at a Glance

1922 - Named for a Methodist minister C.C Young Memorial Home received its charter as a home for the elderly.

1925 - The Women's Auxiliary was organized.

1927 - The first permanent building opened across the street from Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff.

1960 - Seventeen acres on West Lawther Drive was purchased.

1963 - Blanton Gardens, a concept ahead of its time featuring congregate style of living, opened to both men and women

1964 - A Beauty Shop organized and run by volunteers, opened to the residents of C.C. Young.

1968 - The first half (southern section) of Young Building opened. Residents living at the old C.C. Young Memorial Home in Oak Cliff moved to the West Lawther Drive facility.

1972 - The second half (northern section) of the Young Building was completed.

1976 - The Miller Building was added, increasing Health Center services for up to 244 residents.

1980 - The Personal Care Unit was built for sixty residents unable to live independently, though not requiring nursing home care. It was one of the first in the State of Texas to be licensed as personal care unit.

1986 - Thomas Center opened with 53 one-and two-bedroom apartments for independent living.

1990 - Asbury Place, a three-story building with 78 one- and two-bedroom apartments for independent residents was completed.

1991 - Home and Community-Based Services were initiated, and home-health services were made available to residents.

1996 - A partnership with Baylor HeathCare System was formed through the opening of a clinic on campus.

1997 - The concept and vision for the Learning and Cultural Arts Center began to emerge with the implementation of programs designed for seniors and the surrounding community. SeniorNet, support groups, mature driving program, fitness classes and Eastfield College credit courses are all now part of this vision.

1998 - C.C. Young became the only facility in Dallas, and one of only four in Texas to be awarded accreditation with the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission. C.C. Young opened one of the first Adult Day Centers in Dallas providing respite for families caring for persons with Alzheimer's and dementia.

1999 - An Assisted Living Building, offering 66 private studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, opened. Refurbishment of the MIller and Young Buildings was completed.

2000 - The Personal Care Unit was remodeled and enhanced to offer assisted living accommodations for residents with dementia.

2001 - Secured gardens were completed adjacent to the Memory Loss Unit. Rehabilitation and therapy services brought in-house.

2003 - Re certified by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission, making C.C. Young the only Dallas accredited campus.

2004- Hospice program implemented and certified by the State to provide quality end-of-life care.

2006 - Awarded HUD 202 grant for housing for the elderly to be constructed in South Dallas.

2007 - Added The Point, Center for Arts and Education. Moved into newly constructed Learning and Cultural Arts Center.
